This short story is an absolute treat to read! The well-crafted imagery and dialog immerse you in the life of an Appalachian girl's turn of the 20th century world. Superstitions guide family life, but Ms Gail spins the reader's mind and leaves you wondering what is real and what is superstition.
Wow! This story hooked me from the start with vivid imagery and a thrilling twist at the end. I can see why it won first place in the thriller category of the Writer's Digest contest. Awesome!

A well-written, suspenseful story like the scary stories that kept me up late as a kid. This one reminds us of how dangerous it is to simply be different. Read this late at night, preferrably when it is storming, and branches are lashing at your windowpanes...
